The Sony Walkman is a wonderful inovation that is sometimes taken for granted. It started distribution in 1979 and has taken over the world since then. The fact that you could listen to music on the go was not too familliar in these times, some devices were created but not many. Along came the Walkman and the revolution began. You no longer had to be in your house or at a concert, for the music you loved. This opened doors for people in a whole new way. In the 80's a wave of excersizers started the trend of working out with music. you could take the Walkman any where, it gave people freedom and a way to be them selves. They were no longer forced to hear their parents', brother's, or sister's music, they could branch out and grow their individuality through the music on their cassets. Throughout these times Sony and other companies tried pushing the limits of portable music. New, cooler versions of the Walkman and other devices were invented, each of these inventions surpassing the other. Then in 2001, Apple broke the mold and created the iPod. This creation won hands down in the industry. The iPod became incredibly famous with it's screen and sensored scroling. Today this device is used world wide and is treasued by many of its users. When you are upset, mad, excited, or bord you can just put on your headphones and forget the world or clam your self down. The iPod is the grandchild of the Walkman and with out it the world would not be the same. The iPod would not be the device it is today without the Walkman. The Walkman paved the way for other portable music devices and the world is forever greatful for Sony's creation.
